Overview

This study will evaluate the current transportation and land use conditions in the Route 7 corridor and investigate opportunities to make improvements. A vision for the corridor will be developed though discussions with a Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and by reaching out to the communities along the road.

The study will result in recommendations for transportation and land use aimed to achieve the corridor vision (a definition of "Vision" or "Visioning" is included on the bottom of the Terms & Definitions page) including the following goals:

Transportation

  1. Create a comprehensive transportation system
  2. Improve multimodal connectivity (ability to travel by different means including car, train, transit, bicycle, or by walking)
  3. Preserve existing roadway capacity
  4. Enhance mobility
  5. Increase safety

Land Use

  1. Enhance community character
  2. Preserve natural resources
  3. Encourage desired development
  4. Provide needed services
  5. Protect real estate value

This study will NOT consider the construction of a “Super 7” expressway between Danbury and Norwalk. Instead, it will focus on filling “gaps” in the system, including roadway, pedestrian, bicycle, and transit travel options. It will look at opportunities to offer a more comprehensive transportation system.

Finally, this study will also explore opportunities for continued economic growth along the corridor using Smart Growth planning principles.
